Subway Costs Too Much: 9 Better Sandwich Shops That You Should Choose Instead
Recently, news has been flying around that Subway is losing tons of profit. They had an emergency meeting with their 19,000 shops across America to address the profit losses in all the shops. The $5 footlong was a huge marketing success. Many customers flocked to Subway to grab a great deal, and this deal started to end in the 2010s as franchises phased them out.
Why Are People Leaving Subway?

Prices have jumped dramatically. Footlongs are now $14-15 with 6-inch subs for around $10. Subway is not consideredthe best tasting sub. They made money with the volume of sandwiches they used to sell, and now people can find better deals at better sandwich shops. Personally, sandwiches are my favorite, and they are an excellent lunch item that I always seem to enjoy. So, if you are looking for better sandwiches, there are many to try. Here are just nine great alternatives to the sandwich giant. It is in no particular order so let’s just see what we have.
1. Firehouse Subs

If you are looking for a tasty hot sandwich, Firehouse Subs is a great place to grab a bite to eat. Founded by two Firefighters who wanted to have a sandwich shop, it offers toasty subs with amazing tastes.
2. Jersey Mikes

Jersey Mike’s was a go-to sandwich shop on Sunday afternoons. You walk in and are greeted with warm hellos, and then it is time to make that big sandwich. They slice the meat fresh, give you a whopping amount of shredded lettuce, and ask if you want it “Mike’s Way.” Yes to all of that. You walk away with a healthy, tasty sandwich that makes you want to come back for more.
3. Quizno’s

Quiznos is home of the toasted sub. If you are wondering where Subway got the idea, don’t look far—Quizno’s was the inventor. The quality of the sandwich could be compared to that of Subway, but in our opinion, it is much better tasting. It is not a hot sandwich; it is a toasted sandwich that would be good for a nice afternoon bite.
4. Publix Subs

Publix is a grocery chain in Florida and many other states that makes iconic sub sandwiches. Growing up in Florida, Pub Subs were one of the best things out there. You had better bread, meat, vegetables, and options to make one fantastic sandwich that beats Subway in every category. Once in a while, Publix will have a sale on their famous Chicken Tender Sub, and it is so hard to turn down. If you like a bit of mess, make it a Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. It is so delicious.
5. Jimmy John’s

Jimmy John’s is known for its quick, cheap sandwiches. You have probably seen the commercials where people order and the sandwich is there within seconds. Yep, it is one of those go-to sandwich places that makes them fast and taste great.
6. Jason’s Deli

Jason’s Deli is an amazing sandwich shop that hasn’t dropped in quality over all of these years. Try the Rueben. It may be for $13-15, but it will make you want to come back for more. Some of Jason’s Deli still includes the salad bar and the Managers Special. So, if you have one in the neighborhood, it is a must-try for good sandwiches.
7. Schlotzsky’s

If you’re looking for a consistently great sandwich, you may be in luck. Schlotzsky’s has great sourdough bread, shredded lettuce, and good meat, and people keep coming back. The Original is a classic sandwich that you should try. Some people like to get it a bit spicier with some Louisiana Hot Sauce.
8. Potbelly

My first experience of Potbelly was in Chicago, and after one visit I had to keep coming back for more. It is not just me, a story circulated that a man in Chicago robbed a Subway, walked across the street so he could buy Potbelly. When discussing good eats, Subway is not on the list, but you must try some Potbelly.
9. Atlanta Bread Company

Atlanta Bread Company is not franchised everywhere, and that too bad for those looking for alternatives. It is like Panera, but with better quality and some fantastic paninis. So, if you have an Atlanta Bread Company nearby, check them out.
Better Sandwiches Almost Everywhere

You no longer have to waste your time, taste buds, or money on Subway. It used to have some great gimmicks for marketing but trust me; there are better sandwich shops out there. Sandwiches at local delis, or even those on the list, would make a better meal than the pricey ole Subway. Personally, my favorite is Pub Subs (my opinion).
