14 Side Gigs That Help Make An Extra $100 a Month

The percentage of Americans with multiple jobs has increased steadily since the sudden workforce erosion of 2020. Yet, these figures probably don’t even capture the number of workers who have adopted a side gig just to get by.

If you’re not already stocked for retirement, sitting on a trust fund, or in the elite earning class, the odds are that you’ve at least considered how you could make an extra $100 (or more) each month. When in doubt, turn to the internet for ideas.

We have identified a few potential side gigs that, in combination with aggressive savings tactics, could brighten your financial future while easing present monetary pressures.

1. Resolve Customers’ Complaints

Customer support is a field with a high incidence of burnout. One can only converse with so many irate and inconsolable customers before one’s soul starts to drain from one’s body, which is why being a customer support specialist is an ideal part-time gig.

Many of these jobs are fully remote, meaning you can spend a couple of hours a day (or craft another arrangement that works for you) resolving complaints. These hours should easily add up to more than $100 per month, and you shouldn’t have to leave the house to earn it.

2. Monetize Your Driveway

Financial independence requires monetizing your assets. Whether the asset is a skillset (like writing or accounting) or the slab of concrete that leads from the street to your garage door, monetize it.

Services like Neighbor promise that those with room to spare can earn between $50 and $150 per month renting out their driveway. Neighborhoods even provide liability coverage for those who rent out their driveway, garages, and unpaved lots.

3. Shop and Deliver

In this economy, nobody should be above running other people’s errands. Instacart, DoorDash, Uber Eats, and other personal shopping and food delivery services remain viable (if diminishing) means of earning an extra hundred bucks (or significantly more) per month.

Of course, you need to know the basics of personal shopping and delivery. Don’t accept orders without guaranteed tips, calculate the gas and wear and tear cost on your vehicle, and work the odd hours (dare we call it the drunk rush) to leverage reduced competition for orders.

4. List Your Manual Labor Services

Power washing, gutter cleaning, lawn mowing, and junk hauling are just some of the manual services you can provide with relatively little experience. While you probably have countless projects to complete around your property, nobody will pay you to do those. Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, and Taskrabbit are the platforms you might consider listing your services on.

As a bonus, these kinds of services are unlikely to subject you to any lawsuits, so long as you don’t do anything egregiously idiotic (which we trust you won’t).

5. Pet Sit

Want all the perks of pet ownership without the vet bills, food costs, and four-hour maximum on time spent outside the house? Pet sitting might be the ideal side gig for you.

Apps like Rover have allowed virtually anyone wanting to watch others’ animals to market their services. You might also tell friends and family that you’re willing to watch their best friends while they’re on the road, as these clientele should already trust you.

6. Clean Other Peoples’ Homes

Being middle class isn’t what it used to be. While America’s middle earners could once afford to hire maids, stagnant wages and inflation mean that home cleaning could be a viable pathway to actually saving money once again.

You’ll find maid jobs on Indeed, but you might just list your services on Handy, Neighborly, Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, and other service-oriented platforms. State and local laws will determine if you need a license to work as a maid, so do your homework.

7. Tutor

Are you an engineer? Math whiz? English speaker?

Surely, there is some skill or field of study that you’re proficient enough in to teach someone else. Maybe there isn’t, in which case you should probably continue reading. However, if you have read the canon of classic English literature or know Spanish well, research and see if you can monetize your knowledge through tutoring.

8. Monetize Your Friendship

For some, it might be too depressing to fathom. We’ve reached a point where the average American is lonely enough to pay for friendship. What would you rather they do, though? Suffer in silence?

Services like RentAFriend allow would-be solo fliers to bring a date to the prom, explore the city they recently moved to, and have a companion around when needed. If you’d be into lessening someone’s loneliness (or having fun with a stranger), you might list your friendship for a fair price.

9. Write

Believe it or not, you don’t have to be the internet’s answer to Ernest Hemingway in order to get paid to write. You just have to be a bit more creative and entertaining than ChatGPT. Google “writing jobs,” and you’ll find a list of constantly updating job postings that you couldn’t possibly scroll all the way through if you dedicated your life to it.

Some even recommend self-publishing books for Kindle, which may produce the type of passive income that many copywriters (who generally work on a per-project basis) don’t receive.

10. Enter Data (No Experience Needed)

If you’re in a position where an extra $100 per month would provide a significant financial bump, you’re not above monotonous jobs. Nobody will put “data entry” and “skydiving” in the same sentence (unless it’s “data entry is the polar opposite of skydiving”), but you probably can’t get paid to skydive.

The most beautiful aspect of data entry is that the gig tends to be entry-level. You may be a beginner, but you can still get paid to input data.

11. Wash and Detail Vehicles

Everyone must decide what’s a good use of their time and what jobs are worth outsourcing. For many busy professionals and parents, consistently washing and detailing the vehicle is a job worth outsourcing.

Rather than driving to the car wash and waiting, many are willing to pay a detailer to come to their home and do a full-service cleaning. If you can minimize your overhead costs, detailing even just a few cars per month could easily net you more than $100.

12. Monetize Your Body

Let us clarify before you let your mind wander down a dark path. When we say “monetize your body,” we refer specifically to the fluids.

That may still leave room for misinterpretation, so let’s get even more precise. Selling plasma has earned some donors up to $8,000 per year. If you do the math, that’s far more than an extra $100 monthly. If you’re a male of desirable stock, you might be able to sell a certain other bodily fluid for even more cash.

13. Complete Surveys

If you’re seeking a relatively unchallenging, low-effort job that could potentially earn you an extra three digits of income per month, check out paid surveys.

Swagbucks and Zap Surveys are the platforms that pay users to answer questions. Critics say that surveys pay little and may require you to hand over data that you probably shouldn’t, so do some research before you start working for a paid survey service.

14. Become a Mentor

Platforms like MentorCruise and MentorPass are among myriad conduits for accomplished professionals to share their wisdom with those hoping to be in their shoes one day.

We spend a lifetime accruing professional knowledge and personal wisdom, only for our kids to roll their eyes when we try to pass it on. Finally, you can have the ear of someone eager to learn from you—and get paid to do it. It would seem too good to be true if it weren’t.
