You can go on a holiday or dine at a fine restaurant at lower prices, but it’s not always a straightforward process. Senior discounts may not be advertised, and the range of options can be confusing.

1. Amtrak

Most Amtrak fares offer a 10% discount for passengers aged 65 and older. This discount also applies to travelers aged 60 and up on cross-border services in partnership with VIA Rail Canada, ensuring convenient and affordable travel across the United States.

Note that this offer does not apply to upgrades to Business class, First class, or sleeping accommodations. Also, it cannot be combined with other offers, so make sure to check the terms and conditions. Valid proof of age is required when you purchase tickets and board the train.

2. Red Roof

Red Roof offers a 10% discount to guests over the age of 59. Don’t forget to bring your ID as proof of age when checking in.

It’s a good idea to make your reservation early, as the availability of these discounted rooms may be limited. This deal allows seniors to travel affordably year-round at Red Roof hotels.

You can get discounts when renting a car at Budget if you’re a member of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP). Members can save up to 35% off the base rate for Pay Now and Pay Later offers. 

Additionally, AARP members receive an extra 3% off their next rental, a free vehicle upgrade, unlimited mileage, and no extra charge for an additional driver. To enjoy these special discounts and privileges, include your AARP membership number when booking.

4. Goodwill

Many Goodwill stores offer senior discounts ranging from 10% to 30% on specific days. This allows seniors to affordably purchase clothes and items like furniture. While some stores require customers to be at least 60 years old, others allow those 55 and above to avail of the discounts.

Every Wednesday, Kohl’s gives a 15% discount to senior citizens aged 60 and above. To get this deal, simply show your ID as proof of your age. It’s a great chance to save on clothes, accessories, and home products.

Additionally, Kohl’s may provide other discounts on top of their existing sales and promotions, though the senior discount cannot be combined with other percentage-off coupons. Note that the discount does not apply to price adjustments after purchase, Kohl’s Card payments, taxes, shipping fees, and certain brands. Michaels provides a 10% discount to seniors 55 years old and above on all purchases, including sale items. You can avail of it online or in-store by linking your senior status to your Michaels Rewards profile.

7. Bonefish Grill

Marriott grants a 10% discount to all citizens 62 years old and above on their hotel room rates. You can book one room for yourself, or bring someone you love and enjoy the savings on two rooms. It is available at all of Marriott’s participating locations worldwide.

To take advantage of this offer, look for “senior discounts” under “special rates” upon selecting the destination and date of your travel. Upon check-in, present a valid ID (i.e. driver’s license).

10. Ross Dress for Less

Every Tuesday is a senior’s day at Ross stores. If you’re at least 55 years old, take advantage of 10% off on your total bill. This applies to all your purchases at the store, such as clothes, accessories, and home products. 

To get a discount at a Ross store, tell the cashier you’re a senior and show them your ID to verify your age. The discount is non-transferable. Plan your shopping trips to take advantage of these additional savings on already discounted items.

11. Walgreens

Every first Tuesday of the month is a discount day for customers 55 years and older at Walgreens. Upon store checkout, present your ID to verify your age. When shopping online, enter the code SENIOR20 to redeem your discount. 

Some restrictions might apply, so it’s always a good idea to review them before making your purchase at Walgreens. Each purchase method has its list of excluded items.

12. Rite Aid

Rite Aid has your back with their Rite Aid Rewards 65+ program. If you’re 65 or older, you can enroll and become a member to enjoy great benefits. Earn five times the points on eligible purchases every first Wednesday of the month. 

As a member, you can also join special monthly events on health topics and consult with a pharmacist. These consultations include medication reviews, immunization services, practical pharmacy matters, blood pressure, and questions about Medicare coverage.

13. Showcase Cinemas

Showcase Cinema has a special treat every Wednesday for all movie lovers 60 years old and above. You can watch any movie you like for only $7.75, with the option to watch in MX4D, XPlus, IMAX, and RealD 3D. They also waive premium fees when applicable.

Seniors can also enjoy a movie for $8 instead of the regular $11 and grab popcorn and a beverage for only $5.50. This deal is valid at all Showcase Cinemas locations, except Showcase SuperLux, and doesn’t apply to Lux Level performances, special events, Event Cinema presentations, and holidays.

14. US National Parks

The National Parks Senior Pass is your ticket to explore the U.S. National Parks. To buy your pass, show a valid ID to confirm your age and prove you’re a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. They offer an annual pass for $20 and a lifetime access pass for $80.

Your pass may also get you a 50% discount on some activities like swimming, camping, and boat launches. However, it may not include special permit fees or fees from private companies operating in the parks. Also, you can’t gift this pass to someone since they need to show proof of eligibility.

15. Marcus Theaters

Marcus Theatres gives a break to all seniors 60 years and older to access the Young at Heart Program every Friday before 4 p.m. This program provides discounts on snacks like 44 oz. popcorn or 14 oz. soda for $3.50, and a $3 hot dog.

Seniors can also buy $7 matinee tickets every day before 4 p.m. The price is subject to tax, and additional charges apply for premium formats like UltraScreen DLX, SuperScreen DLX, 3D, 4DX, ScreenX, and IMAX.
