15 Aldi Deals To Buy That Will Save You Money

Undoubtedly, grocery shopping has become more stressful in the last couple of years. From 2022 to 2023, overall food prices rose five percent, in addition to the 11.4% rise in food-at-home prices in 2022.

While frugal people try to save money in every aspect of their spending, getting the most for your money when shopping for food and other grocery staples can be challenging from a frugal perspective. However, there are ways for thrifty shoppers to save considerably on certain items when they shop. To give you an idea of the best items to save money on, we’ve compiled a list of the most frugal and popular goods to buy on your next trip to town.

1. Spices

Typical spices like black pepper and salt are so ordinary that we’ll readily pay the rise in overall prices. Paprika, oregano, cinnamon, and nutmeg are everyday spice staples we pick up without thinking it over. However, items like Saffron or organic vanilla beans can cost more than a pretty penny.

Whether you’re looking for regular spices or organic spice and herb options, Aldi can satisfy many of your seasoning needs. They offer reasonable deals on the most common spice and herb basics and even interesting ones like Nashville Hot Chicken Seasoning, Umami Seasoning, and Elote seasoning. Aldi has some of the best spice prices around, at ninety-five cents for their regular offerings and $1.95 for their organic offerings.

2. Mayonnaise

This eggy condiment is the lifeline of most summer sandwiches. While my mother-in-law would say it’s a sin to use it in potato salad, plenty of people do. That means purchasing it in bulk, especially in the warmer months, is a reasonable option.

However, like most food items, you can thank inflation for the massive 18% price jump of a jar of mayonnaise. When the prices of eggs and soybeans rose, so did the price of mayonnaise since both are required to make this creamy condiment. Thankfully, Aldi kept its head straight and offers one of the best prices for Burman’s Mayonnaise at $3.15.

3. Heavy Whipping Cream

As a milk byproduct, heavy whipping cream is easily more expensive than in 2021. Finding reasonable prices on this cooking staple can translate into significant savings if you use it regularly. My husband likes to add it to his coffee and uses it in cereal. He likes that it has zero sugars and offers a creamy texture to most foods.

For $1.39 a pint (16 ounces), you can enjoy the rich, creamy offering from Aldi’s Countryside Creamery.

4. Ranch Dressing

Easily my favorite salad topping, ranch dressing isn’t cheap. Sure, it’s not the most expensive item you can buy, but its impact on your afternoon lunch or light dinner is real. If you’ve been giving up your beloved dressing because of the price, Aldi is here to save the day.

When you can purchase a 16-ounce bottle for eight-five cents over a 16-ounce bottle of Hidden Valley for $3.59, you can see the massive savings.

5. Salsa

I love thick, chunky, medium salsa, perfect for salty tortilla chips. However, you can’t always find your favorite brand on sale. My husband prefers Chi-Chi’s, but Aldi offers a much better deal at an average of $6 for a 15-oz jar.

Their small-batch Casa Mamita Restaurant-Style salsa costs $1.79 for 16 oz. Its thick and chunky texture, combined with that zesty salsa flavor, gives you all the satisfaction without the sticker shock.

6. Bagged Chips

So, I’ll admit that when it comes to salty snacks, easy-to-grab bagged chips are my absolute favorite. I love almost all of them, from Cheetos’ crunchy variety to tortilla chips. I haven’t met a chip I wouldn’t try. Heck, I even like the salt and vinegar option.

For all you fellow chip fanatics, Aldi has individual bags, a 20-pack of snack-sized bags, and stack cans. Their Clancy’s brand of chips covers all the basics, like original, barbecue, sour cream and onion, nacho cheese, ranch, and cheese curls. The 20-pack will cost around $4.79, while the stack cans come closer to $.99. Compared to their name-brand counterparts, these are a great and affordable offering.

7. Crackers

I have six daughters and one son, all who love crackers. Ritz Original, Lance peanut butter sandwich, Cheez-it White Cheddar; my children don’t discriminate. It adds up fast when you add up all the different options my children can plow through!

Thankfully, Aldi has some awesome comparable options to fill my pantry with snacks my children love. In 2021, the retail price for a box of Savoritz Thin Wheat crackers from Aldi ran $1.09. They offered two flavors at the time: original and reduced-fat varieties.

8. Ketchup and Mustard

Ketchup and mustard disappear in my house like water. It seems that ketchup is especially magical, as we use it on everything. I even had a daughter dip her Oreo cookies in it once. So, even if you’re not into that particular sweet and salty combination, picking up these condiment staples is common for most households in the US.

Aldi sells Burman’s Ketchup and mustard, including brown and Dijon mustard options. For organic ketchup, they offer the Simply Nature brand, which ran at $1.49 for a 20-ounce bottle in 2019. Even considering inflation, it’s likely that Aldi’s brand ketchup and mustard will be cheaper than name-brand options, and it’s a great way to save for those summer parties.

9. Sour Cream

When it comes to sour cream, Aldi saves those Tuesday tacos with its Friendly Farms sour cream. Kosher, full-flavored, and Gluten-free, this sour cream can easily replace those brand-name options for a fraction of the price.

As with all Aldi products, there is a standing disclaimer that not all stores stock all the products you may find in one particular Aldi. Some will have plenty of sour cream and no broth, while others will be loaded with broth and run out of sour cream. Each Aldi is different and stocks what comes their way.

10. Oil

During the pandemic, when supply chain issues slowed many food items’ arrival in stores, oil became a hit-or-miss item. Canola oil also became especially expensive, and finding a good deal wasn’t easy.

As of 2020, a 48-ounce container of pure vegetable oil at Aldi costs $1.69. Despite inflation, we’re betting Aldi still has the best price for this cooking oil. If you’re looking for a more expensive option like peanut, you might have to look elsewhere.

11. Cottage Cheese

Like its sour cream, Aldi sells Friendly Farms cottage cheese. As of June 2023, the price for a 24-ounce container of low-fat or regular-fat cottage cheese was $2.49. This is a fantastic price for anyone trying to add a protein staple to their diet or stock their fridge with a family favorite.

I often use cottage cheese in my scrambled eggs and omelets, and several of my children enjoy it as a snack or with a side of tasty fruit.

Versatile and full of protein, cottage cheese can complement any midday snack or help you reach your macros if you’re sticking to a specific higher-protein diet.

12. Butter

Butter is another grocery staple that can become quite expensive depending on how often you purchase it. Unfortunately, you won’t find a huge discount when purchasing your butter at Aldi. However, if you shop there regularly, you can save time and still get your creamy butter products at a price close to the national average.

Butter has a long and rich history (pun intended). However, it has also experienced a tumultuous relationship with humans, as dietary nuances emerged that labeled fatty butter a bad staple. It has since made a comeback and is seen as a viable fat source for those who wish to add flavor and fat to their daily diets.

13. Milk

In 2023, Aldi beat out Costco and Trader Joe’s for a gallon of whole milk. Aldi sources its milk from different farms, but its most popular brand is Friendly Farms. Like other grocers, they stock selections you’d expect, like skim, 2%, and whole milk.

Nailing down a price per gallon isn’t easy either, as prices will vary by location within a state and again within a region. Aldi manages 10,000 stores in 20 countries and doesn’t have any plans to slow down.

14. Eggs

Aldi might be relatively new to the American grocery circuit, but it knows what it’s doing. It stocks great deals on items that people want and need, like cage-free and free-range eggs. In 2022, food staples like eggs, milk, and bread saw massive price jumps that pinched the wallets of many American workers.

However, because they are staple items for many households, they’re necessary. Aldi knows how to keep their prices low on most things, and while you won’t find everything in their stores at a cheaper rate, eggs fly low in price compared to other retail grocers. At the time of writing, you can score their Goldhen Cage Free eggs for $2.75 a dozen and their Goldhen Free Range for $3.75. It’s currently a $1.99 for their regular dozen Goldhen Large eggs.

15. Cream Cheese

As of 2023, Aldi cream cheese costs around $3.90 for a 16-ounce package. In comparison, Philadelphia costs closer to $6.29 for the same package. If you’re looking for a tangy bite of cream cheese, Aldi will deliver for a fraction of the cost.

Its rich, tarty flavor and creamy texture offer a great topping or filling for most recipes. However, Philadelphia has it in the bag for pastries and the infamous cheesecake.
